About Every Reader

What is Every Reader?

Every Reader is a free educational resource providing customized digital books for children learning to read, with a special focus on dyslexic children. We use AI to adapt popular children's stories to different reading levels (Lexile scores), allowing children to enjoy age-appropriate content at their current reading ability.

Is Every Reader free?

Yes, completely free. All books are available for download at no cost. There are no subscriptions, no paywalls, no hidden fees.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Every Reader is completely open access. Browse, download, and use books without any registration or account creation.

Who created Every Reader?

Every Reader was created by a parent whose daughter Anna has dyslexia. When Anna needed books that matched her intellectual curiosity but were at her reading level, Every Reader was born as a solution. Now we're making these books available to all children.

About the Books

What reading levels are available?

Each book is available in four standard Lexile levels:

  • 200L - Beginning readers
  • 250L - Early readers building fluency
  • 300L - Growing readers
  • 350L - Developing readers

We also accept requests for custom Lexile levels beyond these standard options.

How are the books adapted?

We use artificial intelligence to adapt the text to specific Lexile levels. The AI simplifies vocabulary, shortens and restructures sentences, and adjusts grammatical complexity—but maintains the story's plot, characters, themes, and emotional impact. The story stays the same; only the reading complexity changes.

Are adapted books "dumbed down"?

No. The intellectual content, themes, and story complexity remain age-appropriate. Only the reading difficulty is adjusted. An 8-year-old reading a 200L adaptation is still experiencing an 8-year-old story—just with simpler sentence structures and vocabulary.

What formats are available?

Every Reader books are available in two formats:

  • PDF - Best for printing, consistent layout, works on any device
  • EPUB - Best for e-readers, adjustable text size, reflowable text

Can I print the books?

Yes! PDF files are designed to be printable. Print for personal use, classroom use, or any educational purpose.

Using the Books

How do I know which Lexile level my child needs?

Check with your child's teacher for their Lexile score, look at school assessment results, or start with an estimated level and adjust based on your child's success. See our How It Works page for detailed guidance. When in doubt, start easier—success builds confidence.

Can my child read books at different levels?

Yes! Some children read different books at different levels depending on topic familiarity, interest level, and complexity of the specific story. There's no requirement to stick to one level for all books.

Should my child read multiple books at one level before moving up?

Generally, yes. Reading several books successfully at one level builds fluency and confidence. We recommend 3-5 books at one level before moving to the next, but this varies by child.

Can I request a book at a different Lexile level?

Yes! We offer custom Lexile level requests beyond our standard 200L, 250L, 300L, and 350L offerings. Visit our Contact page to submit a request. Custom book generation takes approximately one hour, and it's completely free.

Can I use Every Reader in my classroom?

Yes! Every Reader books are perfect for differentiated instruction, independent reading time, guided reading groups, and reading intervention. You may print and distribute books for educational purposes. See our For Teachers page for detailed implementation strategies.
